ASA (Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate) is a rigid thermoplastic with high impact strength, UV stability, and weather resistance — the material VAVUSH Tactical uses for most solid-color grip panels. TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) is the flexible rubber-feeling alternative used where elastomeric texture matters, and PLA+ is the reinforced bioplastic used for color-blend panels like Marble finishes. This guide explains what each material is, how it feels on a pistol grip, and how to choose the right one.

What is ASA plastic?

ASA is a terpolymer of acrylonitrile, styrene, and acrylate. Unlike ABS, ASA resists UV degradation, which is why it is trusted for outdoor automotive trim and why it holds color, detail, and dimension under sun, rain, sweat, and holster wear. On a grip panel, ASA gives a rigid, stable platform with crisp surface detail.

What is TPU, and when does it make sense?

TPU is thermoplastic polyurethane — rubber-like, oil and grease resistant, and dimensionally stable at a chosen durometer. VAVUSH Tactical uses rigid TPU 95A where a one-piece panel needs both shape retention and a natural rubber grip feel, for example on the Rubber Mono grips for the Beretta 70 S2.

What is PLA+?

PLA+ is a modified polylactic acid filament with added toughening phases, giving higher layer bonding and impact resistance than standard PLA. It is used for the color-blend Marble panels, where the material is extruded to produce the pattern itself.

Which material should you choose for your grips?

Material Feel UV / Weather Best For
ASA Rigid, crisp Excellent Solid-color panels, outdoor use
TPU (95A) Rubber-like Very good One-piece panels, hard use
PLA+ Rigid, patterned Good; avoid long sun storage Marble / decorative panels
